Holiday Homes in the Lake District
13 July 2009
As one of Britain’s only mountainous areas, the Lake District, or Lakeland, is uncharacteristically beautiful, and is a very popular destination for those who’d like to get away from the business noise and pollution of life in the big cities. One of the biggest attractions in the area is the Lake District National Park, which encapsulates all of the land in Britain that has an elevation about three thousand feet, called fells as opposed to mountains and home to endless possibilities for exploring and relaxing in nature. If you are considering some of the holiday homes in the Lake District for your stay, you’ll be happy to know that in addition to traditional hotels and bed and breakfasts, there are a variety of private property options.
If you are planning a stay in one of the holiday homes in the Lake District, you should be aware that the weather can be quite unpredictable, so it is necessary to bring along fell walking boots, and other protective gear. Thanks to the very close proximity of the Atlantic Ocean to the Lake District National Park, clouds bearing moisture are constantly rising up and running into the high peaks of the fells. When this happens the clouds cool very rapidly, and release their moisture in the form of rain or snow on unsuspecting fell walkers below! In order to be completely protected during your stay in on the fells and lakes of the District, be sure to pack several layers of warm clothing that will keep you dry in the almost constant damp.
If exploring the lake shores and mountain peaks of the area don’t really excite you, you should know that there are many quaint towns and villages offering an assortment of diversions when you’re not tucked in warmly in one of the many holiday homes in the Lake District. Consider stopping by one of the nearby farms, museums or cafes to warm up, share tales of the day’s adventures and do a little light shopping.
With lodging options that range from fully appointed hotels to intimate bed and breakfasts, both in town and located right on the shores of some of the famous nearby lakes, the Lake District has pleasant lodging options that are sure to fit any budget or group need. Be sure to search online for all of the different types of self catering cottages that are also available if you prefer a holiday that is more private and independent.
